Novia Condell - Jamaica

Novia is a bright young woman who is dedicated to reducing stigma and discrimination and educating young people in Jamaica about HIV and AIDS. She joined UNICEF Jamaica one year ago as a Children and HIV/AIDS Specialist, bringing with her six years of experience in the area of behaviour-change communication and a wealth of knowledge about young people. Her work at UNICEF has been infused with youthful enthusiasm, energy and sincerity.

Thongdeng Silakoune - Lao PDR

Thongdeng Silakoune has achieved a lot in his life. He came from a distant island and is now UNICEF Lao PDR's HIV Officer. With his kind and sincere nature and formal training as a teacher, he connects with young people and communities. He brings joy to all the children he visits and helps.

Theopista Kanzayire - Rwanda

Theopista is a gentle, motherly figure to those she counsels and helps but she is also a strong activist on HIV/AIDS in Rwanda. A genocide survivor, Theopista is extremely compassionate and attuned to the discrimination that HIV affected children suffer. She brings a youthful energy to all of her work.

Elizabeth Mndzebele - Swaziland

Elizabeth Mndzebele has been an ambassador for Swaziland's health for over 40 years, pioneering the eradication of deadly diseases. A gifted communicator, she gives both intimate counselling and speeches to large conferences on HIV. She is dedicated to empowering communities so they can look after children and women affected by HIV/AIDS.

Persis Halley - Guyana

Persis Halley is a modest unsung heroine. A hard-working nurse for many years she is dedicated to helping those affected by HIV/AIDS. She is sympathetic and trustworthy and because of these attributes she is often the only person to whom women disclose their HIV status. Persis is known for 'always being there'.
